Edited by Stephen C. Behrendt
The Oxford Handbook of Percy Bysshe Shelley is a comprehensive and authoritative guide to the life, work, and legacy of one of the most important poets of the Romantic era. This volume brings together a team of leading international scholars to provide a state-of-the-art overview of Shelley's work, from his early juvenilia to his major masterpieces.
The Handbook is divided into four parts. The first part, "Life and Contexts," provides a detailed account of Shelley's life and times, from his birth in 1792 to his death in 1822. The second part, "Poetry," examines Shelley's work in depth, covering his major poems, such as Prometheus Unbound and Adonais, as well as his shorter lyrics and fragments. The third part, "Prose," explores Shelley's prose writings, including his political treatises, essays, and letters. The fourth part, "Reception and Legacy," traces the reception of Shelley's work from the nineteenth century to the present day.
The Oxford Handbook of Percy Bysshe Shelley is an essential resource for scholars and students of Romantic poetry. It is also a valuable resource for anyone interested in the life and work of one of the most important and influential poets of the English language.
