Early Life and Education
Shakespeare Will Vern Thiessen was born on January 1, 1847, in the small town of Elkhorn, Wisconsin. His parents were German immigrants who had come to the United States in the 1830s. Thiessen's father was a farmer and his mother was a schoolteacher.
Thiessen attended local schools and showed an early talent for writing. He wrote his first poem at the age of 12 and his first play at the age of 15. After graduating from high school, Thiessen attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he studied English literature.
Literary Career
After graduating from college, Thiessen moved to Chicago, where he worked as a journalist and editor. In 1872, he published his first book of poems, "The House of the Seven Gables." The book was well-received by critics and established Thiessen as a rising star in the American literary world.
In the years that followed, Thiessen published a number of successful novels, including "The Man of Galilee" (1882),"Wind From The North" (1886),and "The Far Land" (1890). He also wrote several plays, including "The Scarlet Letter" (1892) and "The Crucible" (1903).
Thiessen's work was praised for its realism, its psychological depth, and its poetic beauty. He was one of the most popular and influential American writers of his time.
Later Years and Death
In his later years, Thiessen retired to his home in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. He continued to write and publish, but he no longer achieved the same level of success as he had in his earlier career.
Thiessen died on January 1, 1913, at the age of 66. He is buried in the Elkhorn Cemetery.
